Introduction of the Chemistry Faculty Introduction

The Department of Chemistry started its work in 2001, offering merely postgraduate programs leading to M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. It also provides service courses in general chemistry each year to about 1100 students of other fields of study in the first year of their relevant study programs. Several 16 faculty members conduct research and educational activities in the Department. At present 85 M.Sc. students are studying in the Department. Over 192 students have graduated from the Department since its establishment. A library consisting of over 9000 books and subscriptions to over 80 national and international journals, together with a well-equipped computer center are the facilities available for the students and faculty members. The Department is equipped with 4 educational laboratories, and 8 research laboratories, some of which are unique.

The educational and research activities of the Department have resulted to the following achievements:

 - Publication of 167 journal papers in highly accredited engineering journals at national and international levels.

 - Delivery of exceeding 499 conference papers in scientific and engineering gatherings.

 - Authorship and translation of 11 Chemistry textbooks.

 - Recipient of 9 national patents on, Manufacturing of Liquid Nanoprobe Systems, Thin layer TiO2 doped with Pt, and TiO2 Nanocrystal Pellet.

 - 25 industrial project contracts with relevant ministries, companies, and organizations.

 - 9 Hot papers.

 - A new microextraction technique termed dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) was also developed at the Department. The performance of DLLME is illustrated with the determination of various compounds such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in water samples by using different analytical methods in 11 papers (including 3 distinguished papers) published in international journals so far.
